I have a secret, a secret I'm finally going to share. Ever since I was 8, I've wanted to be a Registered Dietitian. This has been a dream of mine for a very long time as food and fitness have always been a big part of my life. There is also a very personal reason why this is my career of choice but I'll leave that for another day. I did keep it in the background for a while, after my family encouraged me to start sharing what I cook and bake, I've never looked back. I love cooking and baking, I'm intrigued by the science of food and I want to fully understand the chemical reactions that take place in the body. Some of you might not be aware of this but I am originally from Zimbabwe, a poverty stricken country where Human nutrition should be promoted a lot more. I've watched some of my friends back home suffer from malnutrition and I've just felt helpless.
I've watched a lot of people here in the UK suffer with eating disorders and the pressures to be thin. This is what the media portrays to be beautiful and a lot of young people today take body image to heart. Watching people hurt themselves frustrates me, it makes me want to help. I started to learn about basic nutrition in my spare time, you know portion sizes, RDAs of different foods, food label reading and the myth surrounding Carbs. I wish I had pursued Dietetics earlier on in life but I strongly believe that it's never too late to pursue something you love. I'm currently on a one year intensive course that will enable me to get onto a BSc Human Nutrition and Dietetics Undergraduate Degree in the near future. After a lot of deliberation, I've made the leap and changed my blog name.
So, goodbye CrystalCosmicChic. Welcome to Pocket-sized Cook.
Fashion blogging was my first love but Food has always been my greatest love.
