Its the season to be jolly and I sure am jolly because today was the last day of university term one. It feels like Freshers week was literally seconds ago and now 3 months later, the term is over. Where has the time gone? New friendships made and knowledge gained. Worthwhile? It was. It has been a hectic, fast paced term but I've never been happier. Looking back at everything I've ever done work wise, it feels so good to finally be taking the right steps towards a career I'm passionate about. Dietetics is something I had wanted to do for a very long time; no one said it was going to be easy, no one said it was impossible either so no complaints here. The course is undoubtedly intense, there's so much information to take in but I'm determined to make it work. I worked so hard to get here, every single person on my course worked hard to get where they are too; what makes you think we are about to stop now? No chance. Because we are such a small Dietetics group, we've formed good friendships and even made time to head out for a nice Christmas meal three weeks ago (photos below). Below, I'm also going to share some tips on what I found most useful this term, basically, how I survived. So, here's to a well deserved break; one filled with lots of laughter, joy and of course revision, that exam in January is not going to write itself.
1. Make use of the library/online resources! I know its not the most exciting place to be but universities tend to offer a variety of articles and books as well as excellent, up to date journals which you can access online. You can never have too many resources for assignments.2. Take up a new sport or activity! I have found this particularly helpful with managing stress, I've taken up running, something I never thought I'd do. Taking up a new activity allows you relax properly, it diverts your attention away from your course for a little while. Scenery is important, choose a route that you feel will relax you the most.
4. Create your own mini 'office' space at home. When you have your own dedicated space, you're more likely to actually get on with some work. My boyfriend set up a mini office space for me and well, so far so good.
6. Always remember that you're not alone! The first few months of university can be very daunting but there's so much support available. When you need help, don't be afraid to ask for it; when you're in a lecture and you don't understand, ask questions. You might think its a dumb question but I guarantee you that there are other people that feel exactly the same as you. There is nothing to be ashamed of, this is a learning experience for all. Enjoy it.
So here's a message from me to you: Give yourself a pat on the back & enjoy your break because you've earned it! ♡
